What's the Deal with Methane?

A breakdown of why methane is a big problem, what it means for global warming (and why we should care) and where the opportunities lie in addressing it.

So much of our current climate discussion revolves around terms like ‘carbon sequestration’ or ‘carbon capture’, yet the carbon being referred to only means carbon dioxide. That’s understandable from needing to simplify the discussion to educate a variety of stakeholders, but the lack of nuance has created glaring blind spots in climate strategies and investment. While carbon dioxide emissions

are a significant problem for climate change, other greenhouse gases have more immediate impacts on warming. In particular, methane (another form of carbon) emissions represent 30-50% of current atmospheric warming and yet only receive less than 2% of current climate funding.
